Ski Stop #16 of 42 - Harper Mountain

Ski Stop #16 of 42 43 - Harper Mountain

141 kilometres down the road, just outside of Kamloops, we ventured to Harper Mountain on Secwépemc territory. Harper is a family owned and run ski hill ever since Max & Elisabeth Daburger, with four boys in tow, opened the slopes 50 years ago. Norm and Lisa Daburger now continue the tradition with their own kids involved.

16+ runs over 430 metres vertical (1400 feet) and 400 skiable acres provides the playground. Their Huser Triple Chair, Big T-Bar, Handle Tow, and Tube Tow gives everyone a lift to get where they're going. Harper operates Wednesday through Sunday with night skiing offered on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

After the crazy warm spell that hit all of B.C., Harper Mountain finally got some more snow and was gearing up for reopening on the day we arrived. Norm and his son Max were out on groomers getting the hill ready. Incredibly, the Daburgers ran the T-Bar just for us so that we could do some skiing, and Norm even went out of his way to groom a few fresh paths for us. Lisa rode the Big T-Bar with us and shared a great story about her mother-in-law Elisabeth and a box full of nails. Check out that story here.

We had so much fun at Harper Mountain, leaving with fond memories and a desire to return - Bush Whacker run really caught our attention. Harper Mountain is indeed a hidden gem of Kamloops.

We stuck with Harper's 70's theme and chose a Canadian classic from the early '70s - Absolutely Right by Five Man Electrical Band (www.fivemanelectricalband.ca) - for our song of the day. Our video recap scored by that song can be found here: Harper Mountain Recap Video
