Ski Stop #4 of 42 - Hart Ski Hill
Small local
ski areas are such an important fabric in the world of skiing. They are often
the place where many of us learn to ski and ride for the first time. They become integral parts of a community and the people who work there are proud of that. An ideal
example of a ski hill being entwined with its community is Hart Ski Hill in Prince George, surrounded by a neighbourhood within the city
limits. At Hart, they have been churning out learn-to-ski stories for the past 55
years.
Tanya Fearon was our guide around the mountain and told us about a day when she dressed up
as the Easter Bunny to hide eggs around the mountain and 2500 kids showed up!
You can see and hear that chat here.
When we packed it in for the day and headed into the Day Lodge for a bite to eat, we were treated to local singer/songwriter Dean Chandler filling the room with his music. We kicked back, had a great chat with GM Jess Koppe, and enjoyed a hot chocolate and a great Artic Pilsner from the local Trench Brewery in Prince George, who has become a great partner and supporter of the events and efforts at Hart.
As we drove out of the parking lot and looked across the street at all the houses, we
both commented on how lucky those in the neighbourhood were to have Hart Ski
Hill in their back or front yards. How wonderful to be able to take such a short stroll for a couple of runs on the snow.
